Josh is a marine scientist with a passion for science communication and collaboration.
Josh was drawn to science by a fascination in the natural world, which is reflected in his undergraduate study that focussed on zoology and geology. A love of SCUBA diving directed his attention towards marine science, in which he completed a MSc degree in 2014. Josh’s research focussed on marine reserve monitoring methodology and technology.
Before taking up his current position at Venture Taranaki, Josh provided science advice and education to two marine-focussed Participatory Science Platform projects - Project Reef Life and Project Hotspot. These are great examples of how community led science initiatives can empower people, fill existing gaps in science, and lead to positive change.
Josh continues to work with Project Reef Life, developing and maintaining a monitoring programme on a subtidal reef 11km offshore of the South Taranaki coast.
