The Teachers in Industry programme connects schools/kura with science or technology-intensive businesses in their community.
Teachers in Industry creates links between schools and businesses by organising or supporting events for teachers/kaiako to spend time with businesses and gain industry experience, so that they can develop business-relevant curriculum content for the classroom.
The aims of the programme are to:
support teachers/kaiako in ways to collaborate with, and leverage off, existing activities to enhance teacher/kaiako engagement with science and technology;
foster curious minds by initiating, developing and extending current networks, connecting teachers/kaiako to local business/industry;
The programme is managed by The Royal Society of New Zealand. It began as a six-month pilot in two regions (Taranaki and South of Auckland) in 2015 and is now being extended in South Auckland (Franklin and Papakura).
