Flip the Fleet wins at Sustainable Business Awards

The Flip the Fleet project has beaten several 'Goliaths' - including New Zealand Post, Mercury and Auckland Transport - to win the Smarter Transport category of the 2017 Sustainable Business Awards.

Flip the Fleet won the Smarter Transport Award at the NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards held in Auckland on 30 November, thanks to the hundreds of electric car owners investigating how we use these vehicles in New Zealand.

"We're gobsmacked to win this award, and it's all a bit surreal," says Flip the Fleet co-leader Henrik Moller. "We are immensely proud to bring a citizen science project up alongside the big companies."

The Smarter Transport Award is presented to an organisation that is moving New Zealand’s transport or tourism to renewables, using clever design, new technology or behaviour change.

The judges said: “Flip the Fleet aims to accelerate uptake of Low Emission Vehicles in New Zealand by measuring and communicating their performance and benefits. We were impressed by their robust analytics and metrics and their dissemination of this information.

"They are enthusiastic Electric Vehicle owners who are innovatively tackling a barrier to move the market to EVs – what a difference Flip the Fleet will make!”

The NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards are New Zealand’s longest-standing sustainability awards. Now in their 15th year, they recognise and celebrate success in sustainability.
